STELAR Webinar: K-8 STEM Career Competencies: Developing Foundational Skills for the Future of Work

DESCRIPTION

On June 28, STELAR presented their most recent publication in the space of K-8 workforce development.  K–8 STEM Career Competencies:  Developing Foundational Skills for the Future of Work is a framework designed to provide K–8 educators, curriculum developers, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders with an overview of career competencies, learning objectives, resources, and examples to help students develop the foundational skills at a young age that are increasingly needed in order to successfully live, learn, and work in a world driven by technology—where discovery and innovation occur at the intersections of disciplines.

This framework identifies 10 foundational career competency areas correlated to characteristics of future work at the human-technology frontier, incorporating what thought leaders in the field believe that successful workers in these environments need to know and be able to do. The framework includes the following ten competencies:

• Artificial Intelligence
• Computational Thinking
• Digital and Media Literacy
• Cybersecurity and Digital Citizenship
• Data Literacy
• Dynamic Interdisciplinary Teaming
• Design Thinking
• Systems Thinking
• STEM Career Development
