DESCRIPTION

TerraNova, Third Edition utilizes multiple assessments to measures important higher-order thinking skills as well as basic and applied skills. These assessments generate norm-referenced achievement scores, criterion-referenced objective mastery scores, and performance-level information.  The assessments include reading, language, mathematics, science, and social studies tests for grades 1-12. It is the only standardized achievement test to combine selected-response items with constructed-response items that ask students to produce their own responses.  

The TerraNova website provides access to purchase of the assessments as well as links to information and sample reports.

Q:  In what context did you use this instrument (setting, population, project name)?

Response: This instrument was used for the project, "Connecticut Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences".  It was used in grades 9-11 in urban, suburban and rural schools.

Q: Did you run into any limitations with this instrument? (Y/N)  If yes, please explain.

Response:Yes.  We had difficulty in coordinating the time it required for students to take the test.  It was also labor intensive to distribute and collect instrumentation.

Q: Did this provide you with relevant information to address your research questions? (Y/N)  If yes, what question did this answer?

Response:No.  The Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences is a project designed to improve student performance in 21st century skills and metrics.  The TerraNova is designed to measure more traditional content achievement.
