Join STELAR at the Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE) Virtual Vision 2020. 

ACTE provides educational leadership in developing a competitive workforce, and empowers educators to deliver high quality CTE programs that ensure all students are positioned for career success. This year the conference will be held entirely online.

National Science Foundation Workforce Education Project Poster Session

The National Science Foundation (NSF) poster session is an opportunity for participants to engage with project directors directly, exploring innovations in technical education and workforce development research. Projects featured will be selected from NSF programs including the Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Program, which focuses on improving the education of science and engineering technicians at the undergraduate and secondary school levels, and the Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program, which explores technology-rich learning opportunities designed to strengthen PreK-12 students' knowledge and interest in STEM and ICT careers. During this session informal, small-group discussions will be led by the directors of 8-10 NSF-funded research projects. Projects will share information about their programs, provide resources, perform demonstrations, and/or display artifacts developed in their work.

Lessons Learned from National Science Foundation Workforce Education Projects

This session will present lessons learned and resources available from National Science Foundation projects funded by the Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Program working with community college technician education programs and the Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) program exploring career and workforce education in PreK-12. NSF program officers will describe each program (goals, resources, communities and solicitation deadlines). A panel will discuss lessons learned that increase the quality and effectiveness of technician education, career/workforce education and teacher professional development programs.

Workforce Development: What’s the Future Got to Do with It?

Concern over the future of work is creating a maelstrom of dialog and debate over what skills and knowledge are needed for success in future work, and how prepared the CTE community is to deliver those skills. In this presentation participants will learn what employers from organizations working at the Human-Technology Frontier expect of their current and future workers, what core skills should be developed in K-12 to help our students prepare for success, and explore examples of forward thinking CTE programs making strikes in delivering those skills.
