Webinar: Leveraging Photovoice as a Participatory Method for Research and Practice

DESCRIPTION

Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 12pm Central (1pm Eastern)

Join STELAR for our second webinar showcasing the work of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Advisors! This month we are pleased to share the work of Dr. Jerrod A. Henderson, PI of the ITEST Project "Enhancing Underrepresented Student Engagement in STEM through Mentoring and Family Involvement" (NSF# 2148560).

In this webinar, participants will learn about the use of photovoice, a participatory action research methodology in which participants illustrate their experiences through photographs. Photovoice aims to empower research participants, overcome verbal communication barriers, and diffuse power dynamics between participant and researcher. Webinar participants will use photos to discuss the key aspects of a photovoice study and the challenges of practice when conducting such a study. Through an interactive breakout session, researchers will be challenged to consider how they might use photovoice in their own work.
