Dissemination Strategies 2.0
ITEST project proposals are required to include a communication strategy for disseminating their findings. The National Science Foundation places a particular emphasis on these communications reaching broader audiences including scholars, practitioners, policymakers and the public.
As the ITEST Resource Center, STELAR is charged with synthesizing and disseminating projects’ findings nationally, in order to inform and influence a national community of other stakeholders. We also support project efforts by promoting opportunities for dissemination and by offering technical assistance around best practices for reaching target audiences.
The resources compiled in this highlight include a report on the strategies that ITEST projects use to communicate their findings, provide examples of project dissemination efforts and tools and technologies that can be employed to effectively disseminating project findings.
STELAR Webinar: Effective Dissemination Plans – Success Strategies for Projects and Proposals
Attendees learned how to develop highly effective dissemination plans from seasoned PIs in ITEST and other NSF programs. Presenters shared strategies, lessons learned, ways to leverage technology, and helped to identify non-traditional dissemination venues that are often overlooked.

ITEST projects address NSF priorities on youth participation, teacher professional development and broadening participation in STEM
STELAR is excited to announce the publication of four syntheses that describe results of the ITEST program since its beginning in 2003. ITEST projects have designed experiences for youth that contribute to their STEM interests, they have contributed to the field of STEM professional development for teachers, and they have designed projects that broaden the reach of in-school and out-of-school projects to youth who don’t otherwise have access to unique STEM experiences.
Journal of Science Education and Technology Special Issue - Stories from ITEST: Inspiring Young People to Pursue STEM Careers
The ITEST program has enabled creativity, experimentation, and cultural responsiveness in STEM education and workforce development and broadened participation in STEM initiatives to Native American communities, underresourced urban communities, girls, and populations underrepresented in STEM fields. By approaching research and evaluation with flexibility and resourcefulness, the authors provide empirical evidence for the value of innovative approaches to STEM education that promote STEM interest and career-related outcomes and that build the foundational skills of the scientific and engineering workforce of the future.
