STELAR ITEST PI & Evaluator Summit 2016 Program

STELAR ITEST PI & Evaluator Summit 2016

May 2-3, 2016

Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, VA

Making Connections to Broaden Participation in STEM

For over a decade, NSF-funded ITEST projects have implemented innovative STEM education programs for youth and teachers, both in school and out of school. With a focus on providing youth with access to technology-rich experiences and information about the STEM workforce, projects have reached thousands of youth who otherwise would not have had that access to these learning opportunities. At this year’s summit, PIs and evaluators will come together to focus on one of the NSF and ITEST program’s longstanding goals: to broaden the participation in STEM of traditionally underrepresented students. This Summit forms part of a larger conversation at NSF that includes the NSF STEM Forum (http://nsfstemforum.edc.org/) as well as new opportunities for developing projects that broaden participation (http://www.nsf.gov/publications/pub_summ.jsp?ods_key=nsf16544).

Goals:

  • To share the latest ITEST program findings about innovative STEM education programming and research contributing to a more diverse workforce
  • To share current ITEST project contributions to broadening participation in STEM education and career pathways in five strands:computer science and computational thinking, evaluation, partnerships, scale up and teacher professional development
  • To identify areas that PIs and evaluators can collaborate for greater impact and to develop new work towards broadening participation in STEM
