Professional Learning and Development (PLD) providers’ geospatial technology (GST) skills, understanding of programme principles, preparation, and stages of concern for implementing POD Teacher Workshops were investigated. The POD Team analysed previous POD PLD models. Using these results, the POD Academy and Guide were developed, enacted, and revised. Two cohorts (</span><em style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 17.6px;">n</em><span style="color: #333333; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 17.6px;"> = 28) participated in the POD FA designed to prepare PLD providers to implement POD Teacher Workshops and to support teachers in learning to enhance an existing lesson via the integration of GST and Geospatial Inquiry. Data sources included surveys, daily debriefs, observations, performance assessments, and interviews. The qualitative data were analysed using inductive analysis conducted by two coders to reach agreement on codes and emerging themes. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Analyses informed the redesign and modification of the POD Academy and Teacher Workshops. Findings provide deeper insight into the needs and concerns of PLD providers in implementing PLD for science teachers. The Gender Equitable Teaching and Advising Strategies (GETAS) training workshop included information on the newly updated (in 2019) <em>SciGirls Strategies: How to Engage Girls in STEM </em>which includes gender equitable and culturally responsive teaching strategies to advise, encourage, recruit and retain girls into CTE-STEM pathways along with adult learning practices and strategies for leading professional development. During the workshop, educators began to develop plans for their localized professional development for STEM and CTE educators. The goal of the Train-the-Trainer program was for each Trainer to train 10 teachers in their school and/or school district in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Trainers could plan and schedule the implementation of the course to fit their </span><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">school/district’s needs in order </span><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">to accomplish the primary course objectives of building </span><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: TimesNewRomanPSMT; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">high school teacher’s </span><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin;">confidence and skills in using gender equitable and culturally responsive teaching strategies. The website contains insight on curriculum development and an example lesson.</p> <p>The Philly Scientists mobile app was modified from a safari animal tracking tool and walks students through identifying and cataloging neighborhood plants and animals. Local scientists visit the school sites to engage students in discussions about how scientists make good observations and aid in data collection of neighborhood biodiversity.</p> <p>Students use their data and online resources to generate a solution to increase biodiversity in their neighborhood. The lessons culminate in students presenting their solutions to local peers, scientists, and city planners at a student summit. The data students collect are aggregated on the Philly Scientists website for large-scale data display and analysis. Digital badges for animal classification, data collection, and solution generation were designed for 4-6th graders’ engagement. Teacher badges support professional development, technology use, and NGSS curriculum completion. To investigate the impact of urban environmental education programs on sense of place, we used pre/post surveys of youth in 5-week environmental and non-environmental summer youth programs in the Bronx, New York City, in 2010. Results show that urban environmental education programs—which engaged urban high school students in environmental stewardship, recreation, environmental skills development, and environmental monitoring in the Bronx—were successful in nurturing ecological place meaning, but did not strengthen students’ place attachment. The authors propose a new construct, Nature Relatedness (NR), and a scale that assesses the affective, cognitive, and experiential aspects of individuals' connection to nature. They tested the construct validity of NR with respect to an assortment of environmental and personality measures. In Study 2, they employed experience sampling methodology examining if NR people spend more time outdoors, in nature. Across studies, NR correlated with environmental scales, behavior, and frequency of time in nature, supporting the reliability and validity of NR, as well as the contribution of NR (over and above other measures) to environmental concern and behavior.
